It was in this residence that Yves Saint Laurent discovered his artistic, drawing and fashion talents.
MATHIEU SAINT-LAURENT Yves Henri Donat
was born on August 1, 1936 at the Jarsaillon clinic in Oran, Algeria. Son of Lucienne Andrée WILBAUX and Jules Charles.
He graduated from the Pasteur high-school and gone to art school in Oran.

The « Paper dolls »
He would cut out the silhouettes of his favorite models from his mother’s magazines. Creating an entire wardrobe for them out of paper.
They were models that I cut out of the newspapers and then dressed them. I was 14, 15 years old… I played the great couturier.
YVES ST-LAURENT
In 1950, his first theatrical experience gave birth to a passion for the theater. Accompanied by his mother, they attended a performance of Molière’s L’École des femmes. Thereafter, Yves Saint Laurent built his “Illustrious Little Theater” with cardboard characters and created costumes for them.
