Water ! This natural resource that neither technology nor humans can produce, now constitutes a strategic issue that we must preserve and conserve.

Water consumption in Algeria
For Algeria, the 12.3 billion m³ (surface water) it has are not well distributed geographically, according to specialists.
Also, desalinated water remains insufficient to meet the needs of the population.
Despite the fact that autumn was marked by heavy rainfall, particularly in November, the filling rate of the dams was average, especially in the west of the country.
Added to this problem is the large quantities of water consumed by households, which must also be taken into consideration.
Indeed, we all know that drinking water is often wasted or used irrationally in homes. In 2021, the water wastage rate had reached 45% according to the Ministry of Water Resources. However, there is nothing simpler than monitoring its use in all daily behaviors, and therefore saving water. For example, the faucet should never run for no reason !
Because every gesture counts! here are a few tips :
Use basins when cleaning dishes and vegetables.
Install low-flow faucets.
Use the dishwasher when it is full.
Install an economical flush.
Favor showers over baths.
Turn off the tap while bathing.
Use a glass of water for brushing teeth.
For washing machines use cold washes and only do large loads.
Fix leaky faucets and toilets.
Collect cold water to water your plants.
Favor watering early in the morning or late in the evening.
Collect rain water.
Use a bucket of water to clean the car rather than a jet.
For their part, the public authorities are increasing their efforts in the hope of limiting the effects of water stress. In addition to the construction of desalination stations, the Ministry of Water Resources had proposed in 2021 a charter to save this precious commodity, while thinking of establishing a water police which will act on the basis of a law.
Conserving water !
The media, cultural and sports centers as well as mosques will also have to mobilize to raise public awareness of the need to rationalize water consumption. Finally, the school is more concerned than ever, by inculcating a “water” culture in children from an early age in order to form a conscious and responsible citizen.
Our water consumption is excessive and this is reflected on our planet. As long as it is still possible to act, let’s be responsible and preserve the source of life!
